Great Makeup Made Easy

Great makeup shouldn't be difficult. Find out how Izzy innovated to offer premium refillable makeup that's shipped quarterly to your door.

If you're anything like us, you've researched, tested and evaluated a lifetime’s worth of makeup products to find your favorites.

And once you find a product you love, it's game over. You're a faithful user, remaining loyal to the cosmetics that give your lashes the right lift or your lips the brightest shine.

But these dream products aren't always easily accessible. Yes, you can find decent options at grocery stores and drugstores. But higher-end products typically require visiting a specialty store or placing an order through an online retailer. And that takes time that you don’t necessarily have. We’re all busy, and making a special trip to Sephora or Ulta—or waiting for your shipment to arrive—doesn't always work with your timeline. And who wants more cardboard boxes crowding their recycling bin?

Get Products Right to Your Door with a Makeup Membership

Enter Shannon Goldberg, a busy professional and mother of two passionate about all things beauty. She wanted to create a makeup line that was high quality, sustainable and easy. So, Shannon set out to create Izzy—the world's first zero waste beauty brand.

"My goal of creating an eco-friendly brand aligned perfectly with making it easy,” explains Shannon. “To provide a zero waste shipping experience, we manufactured reusable mailers from upcycled materials that serve a dual purpose: to deliver fresh products to the consumer, and to return empties to our fulfillment center for cleaning and refills. Since there's a continuous exchange of products between us and our customers, it made the most sense to create a membership model.”

Shannon stresses the convenience of Izzy’s membership options, which were designed to make refills as easy as possible. “As a quarterly or annual member, you get fresh product delivered to your mailbox every three months in our reusable shipper. For our closed-loop refill system to work, all you have to do is put your used product in the prepaid shipper and drop it in the mailbox.”

Refillable Makeup Makes It Possible

A trip to the dentist sparked the idea for endlessly refillable makeup that can be easily shipped back and forth.

"I was curious how doctors and dentists can use the same tools on multiple patients each day," explains Shannon, "and discovered that medical-grade stainless steel could be washed and reused more than 10,000 times without being compromised."

"With a lot of heavy lifting from a dear friend who’s an engineer, I was able to design cosmetic components that were made out of medical-grade stainless steel. We then created a patent-pending triple cleansing process to remove any excess goop and microbial buildup, which allows for sanitary refills.”

Since producing a zero waste product was the goal, Shannon had to address all of the microplastics commonly found in cosmetic components.

"We eventually landed on a plant-based plastic resin called POM ECO-B,” explains Shannon, “which allows us to melt down and remold the wands and applicators to make them new again. So the plastic we use always gets reused. We truly are walking the walk about being a zero waste brand from start to finish."
